Senator is San Diego, CA based DJ and record label owner, Philip Rush. He started DJ’ing in the late 1990’s, primarily focusing on Big Beat and Downtempo. His current DJ sets encompass a wide variety of rolling, musical dnb, as well as taking it more edgy, drawing on influences such as jazz, funk, hip-hop, down tempo and neuro-funk.
Senator has played such clubs as Momentum (Leeds, UK), Mighty (San Francisco), Shelter (San Francisco), Deep (San Diego), Liquid (San Diego), and many more. With DJ sets alongside Klute, Marcus Intalex, Ant TC1, Survival, Octane & DLR, Senator remains committed to pushing the edges of international Drum & Bass and Jungle music.
In his most recent endeavor, Senator launched a new label entitled, Voyage Music. The first release is in current production and features Quadrant & Iris (CIA, Commercial Suicide), Calculon (Rubik, Shoot Recordings, and Saxxon (V Records, Liquid V, Chronic, Spearhead). The label’s website is ready to launch and will include fashion forward apparel for guys and girls, music releases, stickers, DJ mixes and a blog showcasing new artists, upcoming events and insights into the world of drum n bass. Last but not least, Voyage Music will be broadcasting live on Jungletrain.net two Friday’s a month.
Outside of his music career, Senator is co-owner and manager of Symbio Life, a new company focusing on nutrition, body and hair products. Based on the Moringa tree, a plant that produces some of the most nutritious vegetables in the world, the company plans to market world wide through it’s own website and other distributors.
Senator has also traveled widely as a social scientist and development practitioner. His most recent engagement took him to Afghanistan where he worked hand-in-hand with the US military and Afghan counterparts as a field researcher. Prior to Afghanistan, Senator was an entrepreneurship trainer in Guinea where he launched a nation-wide training program focusing on youth entrepreneurship.
